Pioneer Inn Grill & Bar
658 Wharf St, Lahaina, HI 96761, USA
Pioneer Inn Grill & Bar Today Lahaina’s Victorian flourishes look picturesque. But in the 19th-century, the port teemed with sailors, gamblers and prostitutes. Then the Pioneer Inn opened its doors for business in 1901, foreshadowing an economy that would ultimately replace whaling, sugar and pineapples. Step back in time through the swinging doors of this vintage bar, which now bizarrely anchors the courtyard of a Best Western (a member of the Historic Hotels of America). Oars, harpoons and a ship’s figurehead still adorn the space, looming over platters of coconut shrimp, parmesan-crusted fish on coconut rice, and margaritas made with POG (passionfruit, orange and guava juice). Happy hour runs from 3–6pm daily, and includes discounted beers, cocktails, and well drinks.
