Prison Street Pizza
Cousin to Upcountry’s Serpico’s
(a local favorite), this sweet welcoming spot serves Jersey-style pizza in an old West Maui plantation-style house that had previously been empty for almost 20 years. Tourists dine here, sure, but Prison Street isn’t overrun with fruity $15 rum cocktails or extreme mac-nut-crusting to pander to them. Instead the pizzeria keeps things simple with light nautical décor — a nod towards Lahaina’s past as a whaling port — and thin-crust pies in flavors like BBQ chicken, Philly Cheesesteak and the Windmills, a curiously named mélange of Italian ingredients with a pesto base, mozzarella, goat cheese, and roasted red peppers. Prison Street also does subs, salads, and calzones — and it delivers, a real gift for introverted visitors needing a break from public dining!
