A twisted treat, made famous in Philly

Large arrow left

Most people associate Philadelphia with sandwiches, most notably cheese steaks and hoagies. But another iconic local treat is the soft pretzel. Sure, you can find soft pretzels pretty much everywhere in Philly, but if you get one from a corner food truck, it probably wasn't baked the same day you're going to eat it. If you want to try a real (and beyond delicious) soft pretzel, go to the place where they'll be rolling and twisting the dough right in front of you, at Miller's Twist, one of the Pennsylvania Dutch merchants in the Reading Terminal Market, on 12th Street between Arch and Filbert. People line up here daily for freshly baked soft pretzels and pretzel dogs (hot dogs rolled up inside a pretzel bun). There are only fresh pretzels here, warm from the oven, just-baked to a golden perfection, and brushed with a touch of melted butter. The aroma is intoxicating. You'll want to eat more than one! Save room for a milk shake made with fresh Lancaster County ice cream.
