What’s not to like? Modern buildings, central locations, variety of rooms, great nightlife and cheap dining options. Honestly, it doesn’t get better than that. The hostel is handily located between two of the city’s busiest subway station – Kongens Nytorv and Nørreport, on a quiet side street, and yet just steps away from the gorgeous Roseborg Palace Gardens. The hostel is uber modern, spacious and well decorated throughout, with funky pieces of local art here and there. The rooms are spread over 5 floors, with the first floor dedicated to all things bar, wifi, tv and hanging out, with a GIGANTIC common room that overlooks a nice terrace for the warmer months. Many activities are organised throughout the week. For instance: Hangover Sunday, where popcorn is served free of charge and a movie is on in the common room. Sunday evening looking fine, if you ask me. While I love hostel life, inexpensive rates and a fun atmosphere, I value my privacy to no end. And luckily, Generator fits the bill quite nicely on both ends.

Boutique Hostel Bargain
In a city where a dollar doesn’t get you very far – it’s important to try to save money on the things you can so that you can spend it on other more important things – like food! Don’t be fooled by the word hostel – as this hostel is not like any other that I’ve ever stayed in. I would call Generator Hostel in Copenhagen more of a Boutique Hostel where the average age of the guests was 25 to 35 - older than most hostels. Yes – they have the traditional dorm rooms and shared bathrooms, but they also have private rooms that are smartly decorated and have ensuite bathrooms. I saw a number of families staying there with kids ranging from all ages. I stayed in a private room on the 6th floor with a wonderful view across the rooftops of Copenhagen. The desk knowledge and service was better than any hotel - there was someone at the front desk 24 hours a day to answer any questions you had about Copenhagen. The common areas were cleverly designed and the food and bar prices were far more reasonable than nearby restaurants. The location was perfect for walking to the sites of the city – it was centrally located just off Kongens Nytorv, the largest square in the city and also near parks and the palace. Price: Starts from £15pp per night, staying in a dorm room. Private en-suite singles and double rooms start from £24pp per night. Services: 24 hour desk help, luggage storage, free walking tour every day, free wifi, all you can eat breakfast for 75 krona

This designer hostel has a sprawling bar, clean rooms, was renovated recently, and is in a fantastic location. With a large mixture of private and public rooms, it is a quality option for budget travelers, groups, and individuals looking for something that is nice but more sociable than your typical hotel. Where to Stay (and Overcome Hostel Angst) in Copenhagen: Generator Hostel Copenhagen
Truth be told, when it comes to hotel stays, I tend to be somewhat snobbish, preferring cute, boutique hotels or even bigger hotel brands that align with my affordable luxury travel style. I’ll gladly overspend for a hotel that offers local flavor, breakfast, charm, and an impeccably clean place to rest my head. I never imagined that I could find all of these qualities in a hostel. In fact, I always associated hostels with college dorms which tend to be loud, filthy, and full of party-going twenty-somethings. So when I came across review-after-review on Tripadvisor singing the praises of Generator Hostel Copenhagen, I couldn’t help but take notice. With my back and budget against the wall, I decided to take a chance with my first ever hostel stay at Generator. I’m so glad I did. My stay at Generator was actually a great experience, especially since it’s clean, über hip, and more like a boutique hotel than a hostel. Not to mention, the price is very reasonable for an expensive city like Copenhagen.
