Local Ramen & Beer–Underbelly Little Italy
'Making it up as we go since 2011' is Underbelly's tagline, setting the tone for an unconventional, fresh approach to serving up an amazing bowl of ramen alongside a solid selection of local craft beers. Watch out, there's also a list of dangerously affordable cocktails, so it's easy to lose sight of time in this neighborhood jaunt. Just like the take on the food, the design of the space is local, too. Basile Studios (basilestudio.com), a San Diego design and fabrication studio, has created a cool window system that doubles the indoor/outdoor dining area, and let's guests bring their dogs along. My ramen, 'Belly of the Beast', included a soft boiled egg, oxtail dumplings, smoked brisket hoisin, and glazed short ribs for $12 and it was delicious. Bon Appétit. >>>A big thank you to Marriott’s recently opened SpringHill Suites San Diego Downtown/Bayfront (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sandh-springhill-suites-san-diego-downtown-bayfront) for accommodations. Located less then 10 minutes by foot from Underbelly/ Little Italy.
