Lincoln Center is an iconic landmark featured in TV shows, movies, and countless city tours. It is an artist’s mecca comprised of many buildings, including Avery Fisher Hall, the Julliard School, and The Metropolitan Opera. All of the buildings were designed by different architects. The focal point and largest building in the complex is The Metropolitan Opera which houses a pair of large paintings by Marc Chagall in its interior. While Lincoln Center is beautiful in day light, it’s true beauty is witnessed at night when the lights from inside the buildings highlight the columns and arches made of travertine.

Lincoln Center
With 29 outdoor and indoor facilities, Lincoln Center is a world renowned venue for the performing arts and home to eleven resident art organizations including the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, the New York Philharmonic and others. I’ve experienced memorable performances such Sting with the Royal Philharmonic, operas like “Carmen” and “Madama Butterfly,” as well as “Life of Pi” at the New York Film Festival. It also has an interesting connection with contemporary art through the Vera List Art Project, which bridged the gap between performing and visual arts with artist commissioned posters for Lincoln Center’s events and eventually evolved into a series of limited edition prints.
New York Fashion Week
You know those moments in life where there are pre-planned weeks of non-stop work? Exhilarating, backbreaking, breathtaking work? That’s what fashion is for me and thousands others in the fashion industry. Words that won’t be in your vocabulary are sleep, relax, and calm down because they’ll be no time as you shuffle from backstage to front of house to the next show across town (if you’re lucky in the same venue) for an hour, just to repeat all of this until the last show ends. People who aren’t apart of this world tend to frown upon what we do and how much “drama” it seems to garner, but at the end of the day it’s one of the industries that are keeping our economy going. Yikes... let me step off my soap box. Anyway, follow me and see what exciting mayhem fashion week in New York brings. During this time, restaurants, hotels, bars, boutiques have “fashion week sales”, “Fashion Fixe” plates and even drinks commemorating designers showing in the city. Also, NYFW (as it’s so commonly hashtagged) has many opportunities for those in other business sectors to attend and see some of the shows first hand. American Express has special card member packages, so make sure to sign up for their news letter. Due to the snowstorm this past season, that caused flights to be cancelled, some PR Firms gave away free tickets to shows. And if social media still isn’t your cup of tea, there are dozens of contests going on weeks to days before the tents open.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Front of House at Hervé Léger
Front of house at Hervé Léger this past season. Seats are filled and people are standing to see what the famed married duo were going to give us in this Fall/Winter 2013 collection. Most shows have celebrities sitting front row. This show you can see model Coco Rocha, Djano Unchained actress Nichole Galicia, Blue Bloods actress Sami Gayle, one part of the DJ trio “The Misshapes” Leigh Lezark, and DJ Kiss.
Emerging Designers @ NY Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week is always exciting with shows presented by top internationally recognized designers as well as some of the most exciting emerging talent in the US. It was great to see designer Prabal Gurung, who had his first two presentations take place at FLAG, recently launch both his love inspired collaboration with Target and his military chic Fall 2013 collection. Two young designers - Misha Nonoo and Jonathan Cohen - have captured my attention and are examples of the type of fresh talent one can catch during New York Fashion Week. Misha’s clothing communicates a classic and ageless sensibility. I love the beautiful colors and fabrics along with the smart tailoring. Also, she creates the clothes in Manhattan and makes them available at accessible price points. The latest collection - which was inspired by Russia – includes a very striking red dress. http://nonoony.com/ Jonathan’s clothing has a unique, transformative quality to it; he experiments with 3-D form and designs many of his own prints. His latest collection includes concert imagery such as cheering hands and glow sticks. http://jonathancohencollection.com/ To read more about Stephanie’s studio visits with Misha Nonoo and Jonathan Cohen, check out her feature on them at Andaz Salon site. http://andazsalon.com/content/finding-inspiration-fashion-designers-misha-nonoo-and-jonathan-cohen
Enjoy while it last
Today is the last day of summer heading to fall. Fortunately, it is also one of the best days, weather-wise, to walk around the city. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is a complex of buildings with outdoor and indoor performances is definitely one of the best places to enjoy the day.
