A sugary sweet blast from the past
A candy store has occupied this building continuously since 1863, although there have been different owners over time. The present owners, the Berley Brothers, also own and operate the Franklin Fountain ice cream parlor a few doors away on Market Street, and they are master confectioners. Even for those who don't like candy (is that even possible?), visiting the store is worthwhile just to see the gorgeous Victorian interior. A visit here is like stepping back in time, plus you'll feel like a kid again, peeking into the vintage glass-topped cabinets full of chocolates and other sweets. Look for the Whirly Berley Bars (chocolate nougat with salted chocolate caramel), and be sure to check out the seasonal creations, like the pumpkin spice buttercreams.
