If you’ve dreamed of climbing an ancient Maya ruin, yet remain free from the madding crowds, Cancún has a little secret: Ruinas del Rey, an archaeological treasure tucked into the Hotel Zone, just a 10-minute bus ride from most city resorts. Dating back as late as 1200 CE, it was used as a center for maritime trade. While thousands of tourists pack into sites hours away, hardly anyone knows Ruinas del Rey. Smaller than other ruins, you’ll probably see only a handful of other visitors. However, probably the best aspect of it all is that you can still climb the pyramids.
