A Romantic Weekend for Two in Scottsdale
What are the elements of a romantic scene for you and your partner? A desert sunset aflame with all the reds, yellows, and purples that the sky can conjure up?  A horseback ride through a sweeping desert landscape? Perhaps your perfect romantic moment is an intimate multi-course meal by candlelight, or a spa treatment for two. However you define the perfect romantic getaway, Scottsdale can make your vision come true, as few destinations know better how to cater to couples looking for romance.

    Check Into Your Romantic Hideaway
The Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North is perfectly suited for a romantic escape. Located to the north of Old Town Scottsdale, the resort is only a 30-minute drive from great restaurants and shops, but you’ll feel like you have been transported to your own private retreat in another world. Thoughtful touches like floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Sonoran Desert and indoor-outdoor showers let you enjoy the natural beauty of the area without leaving your casita. The resort’s concierges are proud of their expertise at creating romantic weekends to remember and are ready to help with any request.

After traveling all day, you likely won’t want to go far to reach the first romantic stop on your itinerary. Dine tonight at Talavera, at the Four Seasons. Chef Samantha Sanz has combined Latin flavors with an upscale steakhouse, creating a menu with paella and tapas as well as grilled ribeye and New York strip steaks. We suggest you conclude your meal, and mark the start of your romantic weekend, with the cinnamon churros paired with the restaurant’s desert views.

    Take Flight
Start today with a sunrise hot-air balloon ride over the desert. As you float above the almost otherworldly landscape, you’ll have a new appreciation for its natural beauty. The Four Seasons arranges balloon rides that conclude with a celebratory champagne breakfast, though there are local operators, like Hot Air Expeditions and Rainbow Ryders, that offer similar experiences if you are staying at another property.

After you have seen the desert from a bird’s-eye view, get a closer look at its impressive plant life with a visit to the Desert Botanical Garden. The 140-acre garden is a renowned showcase of plants that survive in one of the world’s harshest environments. Botanists and romantics alike can appreciate the blooms along the Wildflower Trail, which thrive despite the heat and dry conditions of their environment.

Later in the day, take a stroll on the Scottsdale Waterfront in Old Town Scottsdale, where public spaces, high-end boutiques and restaurants, and sculpture installations create a perfect environment to window-shop or sample some Arizona wines.

Also in Old Town Scottsdale, Café Monarch is one of those intimate restaurants that locals would prefer to keep as their own secret. The family-run restaurant serves four-course, prix-fixe menus that change daily, with an emphasis on Italian dishes. Its signature cocktails have helped add to its fame. When it comes to romance, there are few settings that can compete with its candlelit ivy-covered garden. Café Monarch was recently named the Most Romantic Restaurant in America by Yelp.com so it’s a must visit destination on this trip.

    Day 3
A Morning Hike, and a Night Under the Stars
Rise early today for a hike through Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Some 215 miles of trails, with seven major trailheads, span this 30,000-acre preserve. You may want to choose the Sunrise Trail, which climbs 1,300 feet in elevation and offers sweeping views of the desert below. Whichever trail you choose, you’ll enjoy watching the desert come to life as the sun rises in the sky. A plus of the Preserve is that while you will get to experience the true untamed wilderness, the trails are marked and maintained, and the park is well-staffed. There’s no reason to hesitate before embarking on a self-guided hike here. Just remember your water bottles!

Eat an early dinner tonight at Orange Sky, which has frequently been described as Scottsdale’s most picturesque restaurant. Caviar, foie gras, and seafood platters help it earn that distinction, but it is the 360-degree views of the sunsets here that clinch it.

Afterwards you’ll head out on a stargazing tour with Stellar Adventures. The clear, dry air around Scottsdale makes it ideal for spotting all the stars of the night sky, and the spectacle can be breathtaking. Stellar Adventures’ high-powered telescopes will let you see the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter as well. The outfitter also provides night vision goggles on their stargazing tours, making it possible to spot the nocturnal wildlife that emerges after dark.

    Indulge
You may be tempted to sleep in before beginning your journey home, but we suggest wrapping up your trip with a spa treatment for two. The Couples’ Suite Indulgence at the Four Seasons includes a 25-minute body polish and a 50-minute massage. If you are staying at another resort in Scottsdale, odds are good they have a couple’s package waiting too—in addition to romance, this town has the spa thing down.
