Gettó Gulyás

Budapest, Wesselényi u. 18, 1077 Hungary

At last, a restaurant that focusses on pörkölt, a national Hungarian dish that resembles a meat stew with lots of peppers—it’s similar to goulash, but is less popular abroad and has been largely ignored by restaurants in the city until now. in a space that was once a bar in the bustling and popular 7th District, Gettó Gulyás serves 14 kinds of pörkölt (types of meat can vary) and many other Hungarian comfort foods like chicken soup and sponge cake. The chef’s inspiration was his grandmother’s recipes, after all. Gettó’s interior matches corrugated metal walls with vintage wooden furniture; the crowd is a mix of locals and in-the-know visitors.
