I love a store that has it all, especially when shopping for souvenirs. For visitors to Philly, there is no better place for one-stop shopping than the Pennsylvania General Store, located in the Reading Terminal Market. You'll find anything from Amish quilts to fresh fudge, unique Philly and PA food items, and locally treasured Asher’s chocolate-covered pretzels. Fresh-baked Hope’s cookies and tins of award-winning Rosie’s butterkins (yummy butter cookies). Soft pretzel T-shirts. City of Brotherly Love shot glasses. Magnets, postcards, and souvenir coffee mugs from Intercourse, PA (yes, that’s a real town in Lancaster County).
There, you have your shopping list, now get started! My personal favorites are the amazing Urban Garden Chocolate Bars, made by Philadelphia chocolatiers John & Kira’s, featured in Gourmet Magazine and unlike any chocolate you’ve ever tried. Expensive, yes, but worth every penny. You only live once!
Former Philadelphians who miss their local treats can order care packages online at the General Store’s website.
