Olowalu General Store
Established in 1932, this pitstop on the Lahaina road is most famous for Hawaiian hot dogs. They’re just standard red franks, grilled into a bun. Yet pro surfers and their fans — usually headed to nearby Olowalu Beach
— have elevated the treat to almost cult status. The general store also serves boiled peanuts, shave ice and spam musubi (pan-seared luncheon meat with rice and a nori seaweed wrapper), alongside an abbreviated Mexican menu when the kitchen’s cranking. Take a moment to browse the locally made souvenirs and appreciate the decor. A late-employee had a soft spot for artists sleeping rough and would trade food for masterpieces, asking only that they contained his favorite vehicle: a Volkswagen Beetle.
