Ohana Surf Project
Ease into the wave-riding scene with this uniquely soulful surf school on Oahu. Founders Sean Anderson and Susan Geraci had taught for 20 years when they saw the family of a deceased surfer struggling to get into the water. They launched the Ohana Surf Project to help people who need a little extra TLC to overcome fear, grief, infirmities, and the challenges of aquatic adventures with physical or mental disabilities. The school also caters to tourists with lessons on surfing—board and body—and stand-up paddleboarding in Waikiki (its tiny bus makes five pick-ups at nearby hotels). The family package offers great deals for children under 12, who have to book private instruction elsewhere.
