Highway 46 in California runs East - West and connects Paso Robles with Cambria. This windy road takes you through the most incredible vistas and winding country roads. James Dean died on this hwy over 50 years ago. My favorite road in the U.S. is hwy 1 through Big Sur, but hwy 46 is my second favorite. The views are breathtaking and driving through the stands of oaks, passing horses and vineyards makes for a very relaxing drive. Not to mention the dozens of wineries found along this route. We’ve driven along here many times and still not visited all of them. Not only will you find wine, but be sure to stop at http://www.pasolivo.com/ - Pasolivo and visit their olive oil tasting room. You can taste the oils made from local olives, as well as vinegars and honeys. Remember to pack a picnic, almost all the wineries along this route have picnic grounds. The hard part is choosing which one to stop at!
