Did You Say Chacuterie?!

A restaurant and specialty grocery store located in the old Hillside Drugstore building beautifully restored using original pharmacy cabinetry. It's hip, it's cozy, it will challenge your taste buds and it's the perfect way to start your evening in the East side of Austin.

A casual place where New American cuisine shines. Come for the Cheese Plate (farmhouse and artisan cheeses, marmalade, round rock honey) and perhaps stay for the amazing menu with daily specials, like the seared Striped Bass, spinach, pancetta Cous Cous, bacon jam & orange basil vinaigrette.

Must try drink: Bolìvar's Remedy; Aged Rum, a large helping of Angostura, Orgeat & Lime.

Must try dessert: Persimmon Cheesecake, topped with wine-poached persimmons

HAPPY HOUR {3PM-5PM} EVERY DAY - $1 off all cocktails, beers, sodas

Food is the Drug

Hillside Farmacy is a farm-to-table restaurant in Austin, TX built around a pharmacy theme. While it may sound odd, it is brilliant in its execution of incredible food and wonderfully eclectic design.

The restaurant space was formerly the home of a 1920s pharmacy owned by Austin's first African-American pharmacist. The decor features authentic apothecary items (from a different 1920s drugstore) - a vintage collection of medicine bottles, antique cash registers, tin ceilings, and wooden cabinets.

But it's the "F" in the deliberately misspelled Farmacy that nods to the emphasis on simple, fresh food. The restaurant works with local food purveyors and regularly changes the menus around the highest-quality seasonal ingredients.

Local cheese, homemade pate, artisinal breads and pastries, raw bar, charcuterie are all available here. Dishes include bangers and eggs, buttermilk bisquits and gravy, and bison tartare.

Other perks include an old fashioned soda counter and a shaded outdoor patio. If I were a local here, this would definitely be one of my favorite go-to places.

East Austin Bloody Mary

Weekend brunch is a bit of a ritual at my house, and finding the perfect balance between great food and short lines is always tricky. If you get there early enough to avoid the crowd, Hillside Farmacy serves delicious farm-to-table fare and a mean wasabi bloody mary. Sit outside on the patio by their herb garden and watch the bike riders and other East Austin traffic roll by your table.
