The Museum of Pre-Colombian Art
A sister institution to the Museo Larco in Lima, MAP is one of the best museums in Cuzco, with exhibits that explain many of Peru’s pre-Colombian civilizations through the language of their art. Artifacts represent cultures from as early as 1250 B.C.E., until 1532 C.E. (when Spanish conquistadors arrived), and include items produced in ceramic, wood, stone, silver, and gold. Some pieces are utilitarian, others purely ceremonial or decorative, but all evoke images that help you picture what life might have been like in the time of the artisans who created them.
