Standing over the entrance to the harbor, the Rif Fort—which once protected the outer part of Otrabanda, the historic quarter west of Sint Anna Bay—has been transformed into a vibrant commercial center with restaurants, outdoor bars and souvenir stores. The fortification, built out of coral in 1828, is surrounded by cannons, which provides an atmospheric and legend-filled backdrop for shoppers; there’s also a small museum that highlights the fort’s history.
