Lagkagehuset is a group of more than 30 cafes that can be found dotted across Denmark. They open early, so are great for breakfast, and the tea and coffee and sandwiches are all very nice, but what really sets them apart is the quality of their cakes. It would take a will of iron to resist one of their strawberry tarts or a slice of Christianshavnerkage–a hazelnut torte topped with strawberry-vanilla cream and some berries. In Copenhagen they have a property that overlooks the lakes and on a sunny day when the water glitters there are few places more pleasant for an impromptu afternoon tea.
