The Hydrostone Market

5515 Young St, Halifax, NS B3K 1Z7, Canada

This collection of stores and cafés is part of a planned neighborhood built after a 1917 collision between two ships, one of which carried explosives, blew up and destroyed parts of the city, an event known as the Halifax Explosion. Along this commercial stretch of an English-style garden suburb, there’s not one chain store. Each of the shops embraces an independent spirit, from a yarn supplier to a bakery that offers apricot hazelnut bread.
