Hotel Goldener Hirsch, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Salzburg
Dating back to 1407, this historic property is right in the center of the medieval old town, nestled among boutiques and restaurants lining the city’s main shopping street. With its vaulted ceilings, handmade antique furniture, and bevvy of deer and stag heads garnishing the lobby like a rustic lodge, it’s got a decidedly cozy feel. Classic Salzburg style permeates down to the details -- vintage guest room keys are emblazoned with stag silhouettes; staff don lederhosen and dirndls; and even tableware and linens in the hotel’s restaurant feature the signature leaping deer motif. The two restaurants, one tavern-like and one a bit more polished (and with rich histories as blacksmith and goldsmith shops), serve hearty local fare like various schnitzels, bratwurst with sauerkraut, and beef goulash. The 70 guest rooms are cozy and rustic, bedecked in cheery colorful textiles and handcrafted wooden furniture, while also offering a full set of mod cons, including flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi.
