Hotel Goldener Hirsch, a Luxury Collection Hotel, SalzburgDating back to 1407, this historic property is right in the center of the medieval old town, nestled among the boutiques and restaurants that line the city’s main shopping street. With its vaulted ceilings, antique furniture, and bevy of deer heads garnishing the lobby like a rustic lodge, it’s got a decidedly cozy feel. Classic Salzburg style permeates down to the details—vintage guest-room keys are emblazoned with stag silhouettes; staff don lederhosen and dirndls; and even restaurant tableware and linens feature the signature leaping-deer motif. The two restaurants, one tavernlike and one a bit more polished (both with rich histories as blacksmith and goldsmith shops, respectively), serve hearty local fare like various schnitzels, bratwurst with sauerkraut, and beef goulash. The 70 guest rooms are cozy and rustic, bedecked in cheery, colorful textiles and handcrafted wooden furniture, while also offering a full set of mod cons, including flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi.

The oldest hotel in the Starwood Luxury Collection, the Goldener Hirsch makes you feel as if you are a resident of Salzburg rather than a visitor.
