Hiking, Running or Mountain Biking with 360 degree views of San Diego, CA
Black Mountain Park is 2300 acres with more than 20 miles of trails. There is a short 2.3 mile hike to the 1554 ft. peak, making it a great workout. The views are spectacular- you can see Mexico, Point Loma, downtown San Diego, Torrey Pines and the ocean.
The trail to the peak is rocky, so wear good shoes, although I hiked this in my Vibrams without any problems. There are other trails that loop around the park that are more smooth. In the winter, the trail permeates with the scent of sages and other chaparral plants. If you want a good look at native plants, this is a good place.
There are several races and biking events held here. Because these are some great biking trails, you will need to keep a watch out for bicyclists flying around the corners. The considerate ones will give a warning or have bells on their bikes. As with any popular trail- early morning is the best time to hike, bike or run this trail. In the summer, it will be hot so bring plenty of water.
