The Atlantic Road
One of Norway’s most alluring tourist attractions is also a genuine feat of engineering. This 5-mile stretch of County Road 64 near Kristiansund hops and weaves its way across islands and skerries to link the idyllic island of Averøy with the mainland. Pull over in one of the convenient rest stops and take a walk around the purpose-built foothpaths to see this remarkable road from all kinds of angles. Birdwatchers flock here and due to the deep waters, it’s also one of the best spots in the country for fishing. Spend the night at one of the nearby campsites or cabins and you’ll have the beautiful environment virtually to yourself on a long summer evening.
