Historic Market Square
No visit to San Antonio is complete without spending at least a few hours in Market Square, a sprawling indoor mall that is among the largest of its kind outside of Mexico. Stroll past wares that may include everything from pinatas and pottery to accordions and cowboy hats—the colors of the market alone are a treat for the senses. Once you’ve had your fill of shopping, take a break at one of the many on-site eateries, such as Mi Tierra or La Margarita. There’s also a stage that features live entertainment. The market is open daily from 10 a.m.—6 p.m.

Vertical and Horizontal Color at El Mercado Market Square
Walking into El Mercado Market Square is like entering another world, with its rows of color climbing the walls and hugging the aisles. It's the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico. A San Antonio trolley will drop you off here for free. The market offers shopping, dining, occasional events, and an authentic Mexican experience. I walked away with a beautiful hand-crafted metal cross, two rings, and a croaking wooden frog.
