I had been to the almost-too-cute village Carmel by the Sea a few times but never to the neighboring Carmel Valley. On my last trip to the area, I decided to take a drive through Carmel Valley and just explore. As I drove through the hills and past horses and farms and even beauitful wineries, I suddenly saw a sign for Earthbound Farm. I knew that part of this company was located in Carmel Valley, but I didn't know it was right here, just steps from the highway. What a great stop it turned out to be.
As I learned later, this is the research and development section of Earthbound Farm, the world's largest organic producer. The farm has a busy stand that sells their freshest organic produce. You can eat casual food (soups, lasagna, salads, etc.) from their kitchen inside or outside on the tables or get something to take home. You can walk around and explore the kids' garden, aromatherapy labyrinth, and cut-your-own herb garden (a great activity for families or anyone who is interested in learning more about organic farming). Special events are hosted on Saturdays.
Earthbound Farm is located at 7250 Carmel Valley Road and is open year-round:
Mon-Sat 8am-6:30pm, Sun 9am-6pm
