St Barths: What to Buy and Where to Buy It

If you’re wondering what to by and where to buy it, don’t worry – you’ll quickly discover that you’re spoiled for choice when engaging in retail therapy on St Barths. St Barths is something of a shopper’s paradise. The island features dozens of upscale boutiques, shops, and handicraft stores—many in close proximity to great French bistros and cafes (for when you need a little pick-me-up).

Le Carré d'Or, Gustavia 97133, St Barthélemy
Skip down to the Le Carré d’Or Shopping Center when you’re after a break from the beach - and in the mood for a bit of upmarket window shopping.
Gustavia, St Barthélemy
The gorgeous Cour Vendôme Center is all the way upmarket, and a fantastic place to window shop, or spend a few buckets on a saucy new swimsuit—maybe one size larger than usual, considering how delicious the French fare on St Barths is.
Le Petit Collectionneur Museum is something of an ode to the nautical history of St Barths, and not a place to do all your island shopping, though you’ll find a few trinkets for sale here and there. Instead, spend your time brushing up on colonial, island, and Caribbean history.
St Barthélemy
The Vaval Shopping Center in Saint Jean has a number of excellent local shops that specialize in handicrafts, as well as locally made textiles and clothing. Vaval is a bit of a hidden gem, and worthy of a browse - and a few vacation dollars.
Gustavia, St Barthélemy
Locally hand-crafted braidings are something of a St Barths specialty item, and the perfect souvenir to pack into your bag. You’ll find them at shops and boutiques throughout the island, though Latanier’s are considered among the finest.
