The Escola de Artesanato do Capelo is the place where talented local artisans keep their legacy alive. Materials like fish scales, corn husks and the pith of fig trees are transformed into flowers, dolls, ships, animals and building models. Embroidery on tulle straws, painted shells and basalt statues can also be found.
Rua Visconde Leite Perry
Despite its relatively small size, Horta Market, located in a Portuguese colonial building surrounded by trees, is still the best place for the freshest produce from Faial and across the Azores. Teas, pineapple and guava, as well as plentiful seafood and meats, are the main attractions. A delicious and inexpensive fish lunch is also available.
