  • 110 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL 33957, USA
With Sanibel’s iconic lighthouse, built in 1884, as a backdrop, the pretty sweep of sand at Lighthouse Beach Park is a favorite with both locals from Sanibel and Fort Myers as well as vacationing families. The beach is located at the eastern tip of Sanibel Island, an area that acts as a magnet for shells washing ashore and is therefore very popular with people doing the “Sanibel stoop” to fill their buckets with treasures from the Gulf. Bring your rod and reel to cast a line from the fishing pier when you’re done swimming, or pack supplies and enjoy lunch alfresco in one of the shaded picnic pavilions with grills. Have fun watching windsurfers slice across the surface of the sea when the breezes are favorable. Leashed pets are welcome at the beach, so you can bring your four-legged beachcombing friends too.
  • Fusilier Rd, Gun Hill, Barbados
Gun Hill offers a panoramic view of Barbados. Used to communicate military emergencies and as rallying points in the event of civil disorder, the station was built as a security measure in 1818. Restored by the Barbados National Trust, it today houses military memorabilia. Visitors can also climb the tower, enjoy a picnic in the pavilion, or partake in food and drinks at the Fusilier Bar and Cafe.
  • 66-472 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712, USA
Food trucks often frequent the mellow North Shore surf-town of Hale‘iwa—and Giovanni’s remains the fan favorite! Each platter contains two scoops of rice and a dozen jumbo shrimp: lemon-butter, hot and spicy, or the classic garlic-rich scampi-style. Add hot sauce or a side of homemade mac salad... or go rogue with a garlic hot dog smothered in scampi sauce. The truck was initially crisp and white, but has been steadily graffitied with the signatures of chefs and customers since the mid-90’s. Today it parks across from McDonald’s, but has added a pavilion and picnic tables. Or visit the original Giovanni’s White Shrimp Truck at 56-505 Kamehameha Highway in Kahuku.
  • Tortola Pier Park opened in 2015 with the mission to welcome visitors to the island in an authentic way. Local artists, stilt walkers, authors, musicians, and storytellers gather here daily to practice their art and showcase the island’s cultural heritage in front of local boutiques and cafes. The new local crafts shopping pavilion is a great place to start, where you’ll find one-of-a-kind items made on the island like cigars, wine, pottery, home décor, jewelry, spirits, and more.
