Cantonese Classics in a Colonial Setting
There are two Ming Jiangs in Singapore and both are set in lovely heritage buildings — the 1900-built Goodwood Park Hotel and Rochester Park, a cluster of colonial-era black and white bungalows repurposed into restaurants, the later especially atmospheric. Serving Sichuan and Cantonese classics, the big star is the wood-fired Peking (aka Beijing) duck served with traditional pancakes, crispy slivers of skin and meat, sweet bean sauce and other dips. The hot and sour soup, prawn and pork stir fry, and lobster with eggplant and minced chicken in Sichuan chilli sauce are other delish options. The tables outside on the dimly-lit verandah are nestled in tropical foliage and are very romantic and cozy.
