It's worth exploring the neighborhoods of Üsküdar and Kadıköy on the Asian side of the city, where you can see the thrum of modern life. What's most important, though, is to get out on the river—the Bosphorus divides two continents and provides top views of Istanbul's minarets, palaces, and modern high-rises.
