When I stumbled upon this cozy nook of a store on the way to Prague Castle, it was one of the highlights of my entire trip. Not only was it a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, I left with an invaluable souvenir - my own personal fragrance.
This tiny, white-walled shop is lined with beautiful stopper-bottles of pastel-colored perfumes. The interior seems to glow and glisten with the clear glass and liquids.
First the perfumer asks you about your preferences - musky, floral, woodsy, etc - and starts there. I love rose, tuberose, and gardenia and wanted something light and fresh that I could wear during the day.
He then takes the bottle stoppers from the appropriate fragrances - two, three, perhaps even four - and holding them together in front of you, swirls the stoppers in a circular motion in front of your nose so you can smell the combined scents.
Once you decide on a customized scent, the perfumer uses a thin pipette to extract the exact number of drops of each fragrance for your personal mix. The perfumes are sold by size in bottles supplied by the store, or you can bring your own.
I cherish my perfume. The fragrance - tailored for me - never fails to make me smile as I remember my unique shopping experience in Prague.
