Palau de la Virreina

La Rambla, 99, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

Built on La Rambla between 1772 and 1778 as a residence for the viceroy of Peru, this palace’s mixture of baroque and rococo elements is unique in Barcelona. Pose with the Gegants, giant puppets paraded around at Barcelona’s festivals in the courtyard –the city’s gegants, representing Jaume I, and Violant d’Hongria, important Catalan monarchs, are on display here permanently. Upstairs check out temporary art and photography exhibits at Palau de la Virreina Centre de la Imatge.
