Mazel Tov

Budapest, Akácfa u. 47, 1072 Hungary

Behind a crumbling facade lies a surprise: the aptly named Mazel Tov isn’t a ruin bar, but takes inspiration from one, and then elevates the concept. Middle Eastern fare and creative cocktails are served in a spacious courtyard space in Budapest’s buzzing former Jewish quarter. Hanging foliage and industrial-chic furniture makes for a lush yet oh-so-contemporary atmosphere that attracts swarms of locals and visitors (make sure to reserve ahead). No wonder: the mezze plates, hummus, and schwarma are almost as good as in the Holy Land. The owners often host events, too.
