This gorgeous place in the heart of Bergen was just begging to be an AFAR highlight. Board games, books, homemade cupcakes, vintage gramophones, folk indie music and disparate couches and tableware are precisely what makes this small café so special. Also, it’s in one of the loveliest towns of Scandinavia. For such a small city, Bergen has an impressive amount of coffee shops, all more funky than the other. But this coffee culture fits pretty nicely with the laid-back, chill (pun intended) atmosphere of western Norway. Since Norwegian Mother Nature is seemingly on crack - this is the only explanation I could come up with to justify the crazy weather - going from heavy rain to blinding sunshine to hail in just a few hours, a coffee shop retreat is always more than welcome. Norwegians say that there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing - and while I do agree on some level, sometimes a gal just wants to hide away indoors for an hour or two. Krok og Krinkel is the perfect shelter away from the storm, and one that will make it very hard to get back out there and explore all that Bergen has to offer.
