Rome’s luxury hotel boom continues with the debut of Corinthia Rome, the Maltese brand’s first property in Italy, set inside a grand neoclassical building that once housed the Bank of Italy. The opening on March 9, 2026, adds to a wave of high-end arrivals in the Eternal City in recent years, including the Edition, Six Senses Rome, and Orient Express La Minerva. Founded in Malta in the 1960s, Corinthia has been expanding its luxury portfolio in recent years with a celebrated flagship hotel in London and newer properties in Bucharest, Brussels, and New York City.

A historic bank becomes a luxury hotel

The 60-room Corinthia Rome occupies a prominent position on Piazza del Parlamento, putting such landmarks as the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps within about a 10-minute walk. Inside, the design blends contemporary style with Italian references, including locally sourced furnishings, artwork by Italian artists, and decorative plaster friezes depicting the plane trees that line the Tiber River.

Dining by Milan chef Carlo Cracco

Much of the local buzz around the opening centers on chef Carlo Cracco, the Milan restaurateur behind a Michelin-starred restaurant, Ristorante Cracco, and a former judge on MasterChef Italia, who oversees the hotel’s culinary program. The lineup includes the flagship restaurant Viride, which offers both a 10-course tasting menu and à la carte dishes, the casual Piazzetta serving Roman classics like artichokes and carbonara alongside club sandwiches and burgers, and Bar Ocra, where creative cocktails are paired with such snacks as supplì, the city’s fried tomato-rice croquettes.

A spa inside the former bank vault

Tucked into the building’s former bank vault, the Corinthia Spa is a quiet retreat with mosaic tile floors, three treatment rooms, and a wet area that includes a Finnish sauna, steam room, ice fountain, and two soaking pools. Treatments use products from British skincare brand 111Skin and Seed to Skin, an organic line produced in Tuscany.

Rooms and suites with historic details

The hotel’s 60 guest rooms and suites all have marble bathrooms stocked with full-size bath products from Florentine brand Santa Maria Novella, Frette linens and plush robes, Lavazza espresso machines, and minibars stocked with individually bottled cocktails.

Suites account for roughly a third of the accommodations, including four signature suites with private terraces. The most distinctive is the Theodoli Heritage Suite, located in the building’s former council chamber; it features original frescoes, mosaic floors, and coffered ceilings from the 1920s, along with an onyx bathroom.

“Corinthia Rome brings something truly distinctive,” says managing director Danilo Zuchetti, who previously ran the Villa d’Este on Lake Como. “We blend the elegance of a grande dame with the vibrancy of a boutique property.”
