Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum
President Jimmy Carter, who hails from the small Georgia town of Plains, established his presidential library in the Poncey-Highland neighborhood, which includes over 60,000 square feet of archives and exhibits on his life. Among the highlights of the collection are Carter’s Nobel Peace Prize, mementoes from his childhood in the rural South, and the suit he wore at his wedding with wife Rosalynn. Carter’s non-profit, The Carter Center, is based in the city and he also maintains an apartment here. A seasonal farmer’s market takes place in the parking lot and the library frequently hosts book signings and readings.
