Michelle Baran

Michelle Baran is a deputy editor at Afar, where she oversees breaking news, travel intel, air, cruise, and consumer travel news. Michelle joined Afar in 2018 after an 11-year run as a senior editor and reporter at leading travel industry newspaper Travel Weekly. She has reported on everything from Europe’s new ETIAS entry program to wildfire recovery efforts in L.A. and Maui, from the rise of shoulder season travel, to the best family-friendly hotels and destinations. Michelle co-authored the Frommer’s EasyGuide to River Cruising and has sailed on every major river in the world. A daughter of Polish and Romanian immigrants, Michelle grew up in California (where she’s currently based with her husband and two young kids) and has lived in New York City, Chicago, L.A., San Francisco, Bordeaux, and Paris.
