San Marcos Cathedral

San Marcos

If it seems odd that the influence of Gustave Eiffel’s workshop would appear in this northern Chilean desert, far from the bright lights and ambitious architecture of Paris, you may be surprised to learn that Eiffel’s reach was wide indeed, showing up in humble and far-flung places. The wooden door of San Marcos Cathedral came directly from Eiffel’s workshop. The door is not the only detail to ogle at this beautiful church, constructed in the late 19th century, so stop by.
