Grave of Óscar Romero
Beatified by Pope Francis in 2015, Romero is El Salvador's first saint and, for many Salvadorans, their late but no less great national hero. Romero was a Salvadoran Catholic priest and archbishop who dared to speak out against persecution during the civil war, and he was assassinated during Mass. His grave is a place of homage and continues to attract Catholics and social justice activists who honor his work.
