Gram Bebek
In 2010, Chef Didem Şenol opened Lokanta Maya in Karaköy, then a mostly industrial neighborhood on the water near Galata. Her pioneering spirit and contemporary take on Turkish dishes paid off, and the restaurant was consistently packed with locals and visitors. While the cafe culture in Karaköy has boomed, the decline in tourism to Istanbul meant Lokanta Maya closed in 2016. Fortunately, Şenol has continued to share her culinary talents at Gram, a sort of upscale deli of slow and seasonal foods. Choose what appeals from the day’s menu of salads, meats, and olive oil-based dishes, and definitely save room for the baked goods and desserts she is known for. Enjoy your picnic at one of the small tables, or take it out to Bebek park to dine with a Bosphorus view. Gram also has locations in Kanyon mall and the Maslak business district, but posh seaside neighborhood Bebek is a more pleasant backdrop for most visitors to Istanbul.
