Gift Shop Gold: Moretti Bora Tumblers
It’s not every hotel bar that serves Negronis in hand-blown Venetian glass. But at Le Sirenuse, a family home turned hotel in the coastal Italian village of Positano, such elegance is the norm. These MORETTI BORA TUMBLERS are shaped in an artisan glassblowing workshop on Murano, the famed island off Venice. Founded by brothers Giovanni and Carlo Moretti in 1958, Moretti has long drawn on local inspirations for its contemporary designs, from the color of the Venetian lagoon to the shape of a seed-filled paper bag for feeding pigeons in the Piazza San Marco. “Moretti thought we were mad to use these beautiful glasses in a bar,” says Carla Sersale, the creative force behind Emporio Le Sirenuse, the hotel’s boutique. “But I put them in the bar and the shop and sold more than 400 in the first year. When people go to a nice hotel and see something they like, they want it.” Sersale recently launched the Emporio’s online shop, so travelers can buy clothes and housewares from the comfort of their own homes. The first sale? Six Bora tumblers.
