  • Limmatstrasse 231, 8005 Zürich, Switzerland
Zurich’s first permanent covered market opened in 2010 in the Im Viadukt, marked by its striking century-old stone arches. At the market’s heart is this bustling restaurant, which offers a menu of homey meat-centric dishes like its signature veal meatballs.
  • Zurich West is trendy, diverse and the ideal shopping hot spot. Im Viadukt is Zurich’s first covered market with over 50 vendors peddling everything from local wine and liquors to fabulously smelly cheeses. Gerolds Markt is lovely and houses seven independent boutiques, but the coolest store in Zurich, possibly the world, is Freitag. Here individually designed cult messenger bags are sold in 19-stacked shipping containers.
  • There’s no shortage of diverse dining options in Zurich West - from the stylish tapas-sized dishes in Josef to the classical French-Italian cuisine of LaSalle. Diners wanting to hit new heights should eat at Clouds - a high-end restaurant atop Switzerland’s tallest tower.
  • Grote Markt 9, 3000 Leuven, Belgium
For a small fee of ten euro you can get married in style, at Leuven’s 15th century Gothic style Town Hall. The tours of this magnificent structure happen every Sunday at three o’clock. One thing I did not like about the guided tour is that even though we joined the English tour, the majority of people on that tour were Dutch so the language was mainly Dutch. The guide would explain for 10 minutes or so in Dutch and then summarize it for us in a minute in English. I was a bit disappointed but still happy to have seen the inside of the Town Hall. Next to this room there is another gorgeous room that you get for free for a day, on your 50th wedding anniversary. I was curious how often that happens and was told that it’s every Friday.
