The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa
Updated in 2013, the rooms and public areas in this attractive, airy resort have an ocean-themed decor with shell stone, abaca rope, and sea glass embellishing the white and soft-blue color scheme. Rooms now come equipped with granite vanities, marble floors, and plasma televisions. But the star attraction remains a prime, crowd-free position on Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach, famous for clear water and powder-fine white sand. Resort sun loungers are spread far apart to give guests a sense of privacy. A day camp and healthy meals program for the 4-to-12 set means parents get guiltless downtime (or scuba diving and other water sports). Shopping and alternative dining are within walking distance.

The hotel sits across the street from the Strand, a shopping mall with banks, ATMs, and a branch of the Tortuga Rum Factory. Inexpensive restaurants and the Legendz Bar are just up the road at the Cayman Falls Shopping Center. One mile away is the public North Sound Golf Course. Runners can take advantage of three- and five-mile trails mapped from the hotel by Runner’s World Magazine. The Red Sail marine outfitter directly on the beach runs sailing and scuba diving trips and also offers beginner tank lessons in the resort pool. It’s four miles south to the museums and shops of the capital George Town, where the casual and convivial Rackam’s Waterfront Bar & Grill (93 Church St.) has reasonably priced, Caribbean seafood and daily tarpon feedings.
