Tunnel Mountain Trail
The trailhead for Tunnel Mountain is located in downtown Banff, near the Banff Centre, so if you are staying anywhere near the core chances are you can hike straight from your hotel. This relatively easy hike, allows you to conquer your first peak in Canadian Rockies by climbing just 300m (950feet) over 2.3km (1.4miles). The well maintained trail switchbacks gently, first through a forested area, before reaching a rocky, open alpine slope. Gaining the rounded summit offers spectacular views of the north ridge of Mount Rundle, the entire town of Banff and a 30kms stretch of the Bow Valley. Taking just 2-3 hours return, this hike is possibly the best way to get your bearings and stretch your legs.
