The Mill opened last summer to much fanfare and favorable reviews. My visit there last week for lunch did not disappoint. The decor is casual, eclectic, and what the owners call American Rustic. The same can be said for the food. It’s easy to see French and Southern influences on the menu. But every dish has it’s own distinct character. The lunch menu is comprised of salads, “sammys”, small plates, and large plates. The cocktail menu is inventive and quirky. As it was lunch, we skipped the cocktails for another day, but we’ve heard rave reviews. I had the Southern Belle salad made up of greens, pecans, cheese, dried fruit and a generous portion of perfectly done fried boneless chicken. The chicken was moist and crispy without being greasy. The greens were perfectly dressed, not too much vinaigrette, not too little. I will have that salad again and again. My husband had the seared tuna on a bed of richly flavored quinoa. His comment on twitter was “if you think quinoa is boring, you need to come to The Mill”. The tuna was fresh fresh fresh and perfectly seared. It took us almost 7 months to make it to the Mill since it opened in 2015, it won’t take us anywhere near that long to return.
