Tour the Arusha Coffee Lodge
Arabica coffee beans are one of Tanzania’s largest exports, and the rolling foothills of Mount Meru outside Arusha are where a chunk of the country’s plantations lie. Here you can visit, and stay, the Arusha Coffee Lodge. The lodge offers tours of their coffee estate to see how the beans are grown, harvested and dried. Accommodation is in one of 30 of their plantation cottages, hidden among the lush green coffee fields. For those just passing through without staying the night, the lodge has a beautiful on—site bistro café sprawling out onto a garden terrace for meals or a cup of home grown coffee. Don’t forget to stop in at Shanga while you’re here: it’s an on site social enterprise that employs people with disabilities to create beautiful handcrafted goods.
