There is lively nightlife and many bars and clubs in Gothenburg, but Andra Långgatan has its own vibe: laid-back and hip and attracting a younger crowd (both day and night) that is into arts, music, and craft beer. Traditionally, this area was considered a somewhat dangerous place where sailors could enjoy the beer halls and shady nightlife. Nowadays the sailors are gone but the nightlife is still buzzing, and the combination of modern craft beer bars, wine bars, street wear shops, vinyl record shops, vintage shops, and live music still has a slightly gritty feel. Tredje Långgatan, a street that runs parallel to Andra Långgatan, is also a nice hangout, but a little more upscale. Part of it is transformed into a pedestrian/restaurant street during summer. Both Andra and Tredje Långgatan are part of a set of four parallel streets which share the same name—Långgatan means “long street,” andra means “second,” and tredje means “third”.
