Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center

95 Sterling Hwy, Homer, AK 99603, USA

The visitors center at this National Wildlife Refuge poetically describes its location as “where the road ends and the sea begins.” Stroll through the exhibits which explore the sweep of Alaska’s coastline, from the Inside Passage clear up past the Arctic Circle. Of particular interest is the replica seabird rookery (complete with sounds and smells), as well as the WWII displays about the Japanese occupation of Kiska and Attu islands. Afterward, hit the short Beluga Slough Trail to the beach—and keep your eyes peeled for moose en route.
