Azamara Pursuit is the first Azamara Club Cruise ship to have godmothers. Lucy Huxley, Travel Weekly UK’s editor in chief, will join Asmodeo-Giglio as co-godmother. The two women will christen the new ship in a lavish ceremony in Southampton, England, on August 28, 2018.
“Ellen and Lucy’s fearless dedication to adventure, and respect and admiration for different cultures, aligns with Azamara’s commitment to destination immersion,” says Larry Pimentel, president and CEO of Azamara Club Cruises. “Both Ellen and Lucy are travel influencers in their own right, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have them christen our new ship, Azamara Pursuit.”
Azamara’s approach to cruise experiences aligns closely with AFAR’s ethos of traveling deeper around the world. “I’m honored to be the co-godmother of Azamara Pursuit. The AFAR audience is hungry for more opportunities to travel deeper, and the Azamara Pursuit will enable them to see the world and connect deeply with destinations in a way they haven’t been able to before,” says Asmodeo-Giglio.
Asmodeo-Giglio is a natural choice for the role: She took her first cruise at 11 with her family and has been cruising ever since. “I love that you can pack once and not have to show your passport in every country,” she explains. “And if you’re doing a country immersion, you don’t have to get up and think about where you have to move to that day.”

Azamara Pursuit is the third ship to join the Azamara Club Cruises fleet since the line was founded in 2010. Its maiden cruise will sail from Southampton to Norway in early August, visiting eight destinations in the Scandinavian country. Next winter, the 690-passenger ship will be the first Azamara vessel to operate out of South America, making new ports of call in Antarctica and Chilean fjords, as well as a New Year’s Eve cruise to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
