A visit to Château de Bizy can be a beautiful, quiet antidote to the spectacular, but heavily overrun Monet gardens on the other side of the river Seine. Château de Bizy was originally built in 1675 by Michel-André Jubert de Bouville, and redesigned by Coutant d’Ivry in 1740, in a classical style inspired by Versailles. The rooms of the castle, open to visitors on a guided tour, have stunning woodwork (see picture), Gobelin tapestries, and historical items from the Bonaparte family. In all honesty though, I got lost in all the French aristocrats and their connection to the castle, rattled off by our guide. Walking through the surrounding 18th century park almost entirely on my own afterwards, was the real treat of the visit. It’s a magical place to discover, especially late in fall, when nature gets ready to hibernate. OPEN: April 1st–November 1st, Tues–Sun Please note, the castle can only be visited part of a guided tour, that lasts about 45mins: 10:30am, 11:15am, 14:30pm, 15:30pm, 16:30pm, 17:15pm Although I walked the castle park on my own, I believe guided tours may be available for it. The park is open to the public from 10am to 6pm. >>>Warm thanks to my lovely friends at AmaWaterways for an unforgettable river cruise on the Seine from Paris to Normandy. My visit to Château de Bizy was one of many excursions available daily at no additional cost. Great concept, AmaWaterways!
