Dragão do Mar (“sea dragon”) was the nickname of a local fisherman who was also a 19th-century abolitionist leader. Today, it is additionally the namesake of Fortaleza’s modern cultural center. Visitors to the Dragão can enjoy a wide range of activities that mix education with fun, from live theater and music shows to a cinema and a planetarium. And they can also discover Brazilian and international artists at the MAC, the Museum of Contemporary Art, which is part of this cultural complex.
